“Attention is the ability we have to discriminate and to focus only on that which we want to perceive. We can perceive millions of things simultaneously, but using our attention, we can hold whatever we want to perceive in the foreground of our mind.” ~ don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements
What do you give your attention to most? Light, beauty, and goodness? or dark, corruption, and anger? Just stop and notice what is prevalent in your thoughts…
Thing is, life is life, and there is an abundance of both light and dark. I’m not talking about walking around like a bunch of Mary Sunshines who are blind to the happenings of the world – if anything, I’d like you to notice them a little bit more. However, when it comes to your thoughts – your own perception of life, circumstances, loved ones, and your self – what are you focusing on? It’s easy to fall into the pattern of “I’m stupid … I hate my job … She/he did ____ to me… My life sucks …” When in all actuality, this can all be released, it’s just about changing your perception of the events in your life.
Are you really stupid? Who told you that? Time to drop that thought RIGHT NOW. There is no such thing as a mistake or a bad decision … those things are just all a part of your process, your journey. Learn your lessons, recognize your level of awareness, and know how perfect you really are.
Are you really a victim of what someone did to you? Victims are people who have lost somehow lost their power to a perpetrator. Do you really want that person to have control of you for the rest of your life – causing you to live less fulfilled, in fear, and in a perpetual state of victimization? Of course not! Take back your power! How? Forgiveness … forgive them for causing pain, forgive yourself for getting hurt. Recognize … there are two sides to every story. Is it possible you are only seeing your side? Learn … whatever happens in your life, there is a lesson to learn. Figure it out. MOVE ON … and affirm that you are strong enough to trust again.
No one or no thing can victimize you unless you allow it to. Some may question this idea, but again – it’s all about PERCEPTION. Even the harshest of crimes do not have to cause dis-ease within us if we have strength of mind and spirit to pull us through.
Changing your thoughts requires diligence – not just daily, but momentary diligence. Each time you notice your thoughts focusing on the negative attributes of others or yourself or your circumstances – say “Cancel, Clear, Delete” to stop the process immediately. Then, affirm the opposite (even if at first you don’t believe the opposite to be true). Notice that what you see in others often mirrors things hidden deep within that you don’t like about yourself, or are latent fears you may have regarding your life and what you may unconsciously manifest. When you cancel the thought process and affirm a positive viewpoint, you are reprogramming your brain. Retraining the way you perceive your world, and your place in it – in turn, helping you to manifest what you DO what (instead of what you don’t).
Again, this does not mean to not notice all the yucky stuff. Be aware of it! In fact, do whatever you can to change it! But please, keep your focus on the positive attributes you do want to see in yourself, others, and the world. Work from the heart.
Blessings to you.
